Toxic Products~The Truth

Personal Products and the Toxin Contained Within

You wake up in the morning anticipating the day.  You shower, shampoo, condition, lotion, use deodorant, then if you’re so inclined, you put your make-up on, spray your hair in place, and get ready to head out the door.

For most of us I described a fairly typical routine in our daily regimen.  You may not even realize what you’ve just done.  Most of us never will.

You see, as unfortunate as it may seem, according to the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), “Cosmetic firms are responsible for substantiating the safety of their products and ingredients before marketing.”

What does that mean for us?

Where the FDA is concerned the word “Cosmetics” covers a wide range of products…”articles intended to be rubbed, poured, sprinkled or sprayed on, …or otherwise applied to the human body…for cleansing, beautifying, promoting attractiveness or altering the appearances.”  This list could include, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorants, moisturizer, perfumes, lipsticks, facial make-up, and hair dyes.

Although ads share all the accolades of these products, they often neglect to warn us of the dangers that may lurk within.

One group championing the cause for safer cosmetics is the Environmental Working Group (ewg.org).  EWG utilizes an internet based directory which contains products, listing and rating, their potential for harmful toxins. (cosmeticdatabase.com)

Some harsh toxins to watch for:

Phthalates:  Utilized in shampoos and hairsprays.  Known to disrupt the hormone system and regulated by the EPA.

Oxybenzone:  Used in sunscreens, (lip balms, lipsticks, and moisturizer)…linked to hormone disruption, allergies, cell damage according to the CDC.

Triclosan:  A pesticide which disrupts hormones.  Found in liquid hand soap, children’s toys, and toothpaste.

Parabens:  Found in the family of widely used preservatives in thousands of cosmetics.  It, too, disrupts the hormone system.

Obviously we can’t avoid all contact with toxins.  They are a part of our world, but we can take steps to learn and choose safer products.

We have found that Sonoran Bloom Nopalea, because of it’s formulation to help the body cleanse itself of toxins and fight inflammation, is an amazing step in righting some of the wrongs done through absorbing toxins into our system.

Through the use of Betalains, Nopalea enters your body and then helps reduce inflammation and detoxify your cells.  The wellness stories on this product have been amazing.

Please contact me if you’re interested in trying this incredible wellness product.  It will be my Gift of Health to you.

Have You Ever Said These Things?

Have you heard yourself saying these things when it comes to exercise and taking care of yourself?

Active_Couple

“I’m too busy to exercise.”

“By the end of a long day, I am just too tired to work out.”

“I am afraid I will hurt myself.”

“I have a health problem that I do not want to make worse.”

If you’re anything like me, you may have found yourself creating these roadblocks to health somewhere along the way.

So how do we break down the barriers?  Let’s look at them one at a time.

“I’m too busy to exercise.”

  • Make physical activity a priority (Put it on the calendar)
  • Build physical activity into your routine chores (Rake the yard, wash the car, etc)
  • Make family time physically active (Go to the park, family softball game, flag football, etc)

“By the end of a long day, I am just too tired to work out.”

  • Think about the other health benefits of physical activity (Helps lower cholesterol and BP)
  • Do it just for fun (Play a team sport, work in the garden, dance, etc)
  • Train for a charity event (Help others while you help yourself)

“I am afraid I will hurt myself.”

  • Start slowly (Begin any physical program slowly)
  • Choose moderate-intensity physical activities
  • Take a class (Trained fitness instructors should be able to help you keep proper form)
  • Choose water workouts (Easier on your joints reducing the risk to muscles and joints)

“I have a health problem that I do not want to make worse.”

  • Talk to a healthcare professional (Talk to your healthcare provider before you begin)
  • Start slowly (Again, begin slowly and work up to the more intense workouts)

Important Nutrients and Supplements for the Vegetarian Diet

Vegetarianism comes in all shapes and sizes

Life is an experience, a journey, for all of us.  We all value food in different ways and our vegetarian friends are no different.  For the most part they are individuals with strong beliefs that, without compromise, have led their lives dining on vegetables.  Some have chosen to do so, freely, and others have been forced to partake in a more structured eating plan for health reasons.

Whatever the reason; there are some important things to take into consideration.  Regardless of the type of vegetarianism you have chosen for your lifestyle; you may be missing important nutrients and supplements that would otherwise be ingested through foods you no longer eat.  Quality vitamin supplements are an essential part of living a healthy vegetarianism lifestyle.

Recent studies have shown that the old-world ingredients such as garlic, turmeric, ginseng, capsaicin, psyllium, cayenne, fenugreek, various oils, nuts, etc. have great positive dietary benefits. In western cultures, vegetarianism is embraced more as a healthy alternative to weight-loss or weight-control diets.

Since our vegetarian friends avoid meat and meat by products they often miss out on the essential nutrients found in these foods.  They are likely to remove all animal products including eggs, milk, yogurt, fish, fish oils, meat, poultry, etc., which are the main sources of important nutrients. The only alternative source for such nutrients for the vegetarian is discount vitamins and dietary supplements.

It should be noted that as we eliminate these food items from our diet, we tend to overlook the long-term physical effects of lacking the nutrients derived from these foods.

Thus leaving us wondering why we  feel sluggish, and a bit foggy headed. Under the surface of contentment, our bones, teeth, and skeletal structure begin to wither in strength.  Our stamina is drained and we tend to feel weak.  Our body needs these nutrients to work at it’s peak performance.

Nutrients such as:

  • Vitamin B12

“Vegetarian diets provide enormous health benefits by reducing the risk of disease and improving well-being. Despite the overall benefits, however, the chances of deficiencies of the nutrients discussed above are greater in vegetarians than omnivores. The perfect diet, plant-based or omnivorous, still eludes us. In the meantime, fortification and supplementation bring us a step closer.”  Charles K. Rosenberg, C.N., is an adjunct faculty member at Bastyr University in Bothell, Wash.

There is Always a Way to Give

Give and it will be given to you

A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over will be poured into your lap.  For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you…” – Luke 6:38

These are tough times, spiritually, economically, and for some of us physically.  Even so, look around you…walk into your community, your schools, your neighborhood, you will always find someone who is living a little “rougher” than you are.

Now, imagine not only seeing, but responding to the need.  You walk up to the door…knock…and leave them a gift…food, clothing, gas money, and for no other reason than that God told you to do so.  Imagine their shock at receiving such a gift during such hard times.  Walk away, knowing you helped someone else and that the Lord is pleased.

How often have we forgotten those around us because of our own burdens?  What do you do when you don’t know where to give or who to give to?  Isn’t it funny how we complicate things?  Just listen to what God is telling you and do it.  He’s the ultimate guide in all things.  He’s the direction on our journey.  Our Creator always sets up the opportunities for us to give.  We need to be open to seeing them.

You may wonder what all this has to do with TriVita.  Much of what TriVita does is based upon giving.  The company, to it’s core, embraces the concept of helping others and supporting unique charities like the “House of Giving”.

They offer the opportunity for representatives to give the Gift of Health
